On 20 September the Poznan City Stadium will be opened, the first of the Polish stadiums at which EURO 2012 matches are to be played. As we announced earlier, the opening ceremony will be graced with a performance by the famous British artist Sting, playing alongside the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra.

On 20 August 2010 we learnt at a press conference organised by Poznań City Hall that before the performance by Sting we will be able to hear the famous Polish artist Anna Maria Jopek. The voice and vocal abilities of Ms Jopek have won her the appreciation of some of the greatest names in jazz from around the world, among them Bobby McFerrin, Chris Botti, Nigel Kennedy and Pat Metheny. The artist is preparing the performance specially for the ceremony, and has stated that it will be acoustic.

The event in Poznań is generating great interest, with the majority of the tickets having been sold in the course of the first week. An initial analysis by the firm Eventim, sole distributor of tickets for the Opening of the Poznan City Stadium, indicates that 70% were sold in Great Poland, 15% in the central part of Poland, 7% in Little Poland and in Silesia, 5% in the Tricity and Koszalin, and 3% in Szczecin and Gorzów Wielkopolski. Twenty-seven of the 50 tickets for wheelchair-users have been sold, while 2,000 tickets have been purchased over the Internet and around 50 sold to Germany, the Netherlands and the Czech Republic.
